Court Results and Other Happy Things

Today was actually a GOOD day, traffic court and all! The judge was in a great mood, thanks to a moron who took the stand before me. The poor girl was only eighteen years old and tried to plead "not guilty" to going 55 mph in a 35 mph zone. She kept talking like she was on Law and Order or something. The arresting officer went into a ten minute explanation of how accurate his radar is and how he caught her and how many tests he performs on his radar every day while the girl tried to throw fancy court terms all over the place. The whole court room, including the judge, was laughing at her. I was the second person to take the stand and was in my car a mere fifteen minutes after walking into the municipal court!! The judge reduced my speeding ticket from $230.00 to $25.00 (!!!) and dropped the other ticket completely!! I guess Andy can rub it in my nose now because I am soooooo glad I went!!

After court, I took Landon to buy Alvin and the Chipmunks--Yay! You have no idea how much excitement this caused in our house. We have been waiting for months to get this d.v.d and now we have it. Oh happy day! :oD

Jen I am so glad to here good things came of the court results. That's a big difference to have to pay. So how is the Alvin and the Chipmunks DVD? I wanted to see that just because we loved the chipmunks as kids.. I was Alvin even though my sister who I said was Simon says she was ALvin and I was Simon since I was the oldest, but A is for Andrea not Maggie. LOL!! Fun times!

Andrea--We loved Alvin and the Chipmunks when we were little, too! But I remember always wanting to be the gil named Brittany--Do you remember the girl chipmunks? Ha ha ha! The new movie seemed fantastic when we took Landon to the theater to see it, but after watching it at home, I caught on to a lot of very adult humor. Maybe too much for a three year old? Hmmm...Probably. We might put it away for later! :o)

Mandy--Apparently I am living under a rock, too b/c even though we knew the date the movie was coming out, we were pretty much the last ones to the store to buy it. We picked up one of the last copies and the guy who rang us up said that the store was absolutely MOBBED upon opening the doors. Can you believe that? We weren't THAT excited--ha ha ha!

A couple of the previews I saw on TV made me think it might be inappropriate in my eyes for a toddler, but when I saw you were buying it I thought I'd see what you think. See I trust your judgment a lot! =)

I remember the girl chip munks.. the little plump fat one with pig tails. I don't remember them all that well though. Was Britney the popular one?

Oh yay! I'm so glad everything turned out so well! I'm a big advocate for going to court and contesting tickets...we've gotten out of some big ones ourselves that way! It's amazing. I'm sure it's a HUGE relief...now you can sit back and enjoy some chipmunks :)

Oh, I meant to tell you...I had the news on one day not long ago, which I never put on in front of the kids, but of course this ONE time I have it on there's this story of a cop caught on camera seriously rough-housing some teenagers who are smarting off to him..and Jack saw it and can you guess what happened? He has the same opinion of cops as Landon now has...he thinks "Cops are mean guys"...he says it almost every time we see a policeman. Here we're supposed to teach them to go to police for help, right?? Ugh.

WOW! I wish a judge would reduce a speeding ticket from $230 to $25 for me!!

So, do you still have to go back for the other court date? I think that's messed up that you have to go back because the first cop screwed up the ticket!! I hope you told him that at court!!

Good news! I'm glad it all worked out for you that well. Now you just have one more right? I'm sure that'll work out great for ya too! My boys REALLY want the chipmunks movie too, but I thought from the previews there might be too much adult humor(like Andrea said) but I kinda want to see it. I think we will get it at blockbuster this weekend to take to my parents saturday before we buy it to see if they even like it, LOL.

Crystal and Andrea--This issue with the Chipmunks movie is so tough to call--DO go watch it and tell me what you think--There really isn't anything really, really offensive in it (they stick to a pretty juvenile story--no big adult stuff that the previews suggest), but there is some "potty humor"--something we try (and fail 110 times a day) to keep away from Landon....When he has seen the movie though (the time at the theater and once here), it flew right over his head. I know that the more he watches it, the more he'll pick up on those things, which is why I, personally, recommend this one tho a little bit older audience. The chipmunks talk about butts a couple of times and one of them accidentally poops on the sofa--little stuff like that--LOL! Alvin is a little sassy and uses some un-toddler-like phrases (not terrible--just not for the babes).....Please go rent it and let me know what you think. Try to pretend I never said anything and keep an open mind--Maybe I'm just over-protective. And the movie is so cute, you will be entertained! :o)

For Kim and Greg--Yeah, it really makes me mad that cops are supposed to be out to help people and keep the peace, but they act all big and bad for something like a SPEEDING TICKET when you KNOW they almost NEVER obey the speed limit, themselves! It was so funny to see him in court, though--TOTALLY different guy! I almost felt sorry for him! He was alll meek and polite and respectful, "Yes ma'am" and removing his hat and bowing his head and everything---ha ha ha! I just don't understand why they treated me like a hardened criminal in front of a worried two-year-old...The second cop was sweet as pie! She apologized for pulling me over on the way to have dinner--she told me that she HAD to give me a ticket b/c she'd get in trouble if she didn't, etc. Acted like a human being. Nice. You know what I mean?

Kim--Maybe we should get Jack and Landon library books with "nice cop" themes and see if that helps at all? Or find a nice cop somewhere and let them talk to the boys and show them their "cool" cras?

Oopos--Cool CARS. Sorry! ;o) (I couldn't let it go...They don't call me "Spell Check" for nothing!

Jen, I do want to watch it. I have a big problem with potty humor though. Kurt thinks I'm over reacting but I think kids pick up on that stuff and EVERYONE thinks it's SO funny that of course they're going to want to be funny and say things too. I think it's gross. We own two of the Shrek movies.. they were bought by the inlaws (uh hem) and sometims all the farting, burping, etc is a bit much in my opinion. I won't let him watch the second one, but the first occasionally. He rarely picks it out though. The second one just gets me with pinochio in the thong, spoonen on the moon, you know. Maybe I'm over protective, but what happened to good wholesome shows without all that crap? I will watch the Chipmunks though and let you know what I Think.

Andrea--I'm o glad you "get" me on this one--Andy and I are always butting heads about thi. Well, it's more like I get upset when he let's Landon watch stuff I don't approve of and he acts like he doesn't know what I'm talking about. You're exactly right about kids picking up on vulgar potty humor and using it later. Landon used to go around farting on people and everyone (my brothers and husband namely) would crack up so he'd keep it up. It took me forever to break him of that!!!! The other day, we saw someone pass gas on a movie--Landon just sat there, but Andy started cracking up and saying, "Lan, did you see that?! Ha ha ha ha!" I wish he didn't have to be reminded all the time! We were watching something quiet the other day and I was like, "See? THIS is what a two year old should be watching--Quiet sweet shows or something educational." UGH! I could go on, but I'll save it for an e-mail ;o)

Hey Jenny,

Be careful around Brushy Creek elementary, there are always cops there! I've gotten 2 tickets in the past year! :( Not good! I went to court for the first one & it was reduced too, but the second I just mailed in because I didn't want to go to White Horse Rd. Those school zones are awful! I still say going 38mph is NOT speeding!!!! (even though the speed limit was 25) :O

Jen! We watched Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Last night.. the newer one. I love the old one.. but this one freaked me out. Have you guys seen it? Landen didn't stay interested like it did the first one.. why do they have to put adult humor (which is usually gross humor) into kid movies? Maybe I'm immature and like that stuff. Glad to know someone who feels the same way I do on shows! =)

Thanks for replying to my comment on Andrea's blog! I agree that it is important to learn about each other's faiths. I'd love to know more about the Catholic faith.
